Early Fall Reflections

This month's picture has been removed. I left it up for 30 days so I hope you got your copy! You can read about the picture that was sent here.

I've only slightly resized the picture and it's one I have used in the past as my desktop background. To save the picture just right click on the photograph and choose save picture or save picture as and copy it to a location on your computer.

It's been a wonderful fall here in Coos Bay and besides a couple of minor storms the sun has been shining nearly since the end of summer. I know that it won't last much longer, and once winter gets here the sun will very seldom be seen until early Spring. My first few years here I really despised the winter season, but now I actually enjoy them; the weather gets very wet, and the winds often howl at gusts well over 60MPH along the headlands (that's where I live). The ocean waves become enormous and can crest at well over 20 ft. Once the waves hit the shoreline and crash into the coast they can easily reach 60 to 100 ft. in height. They make for some beautiful pictures and you can find a few at my wave page. It's also a great time of year for crabbing. The dungeness crabs are filling out and I can usually catch my limit within an hour or two. During the mid-winter months we also get some great low tides so clamming is also wonderful and my freezer will be full of both crabs and clams by mid-December.

Thank you all for your continued support. I'd appreciate any feedback or suggestions on things you would like to see on the website. I've just about run out of ideas.
