Hike along the Redwoods

Go Hiking Among Giant Trees: Loeb State Park is located 10 miles east of Brookings on Chetco River Road. You will find a campground, picnic area and beach along the river. The park also has a river trail that links with a nearby U.S. Forest Service hiking loop. Walk through the Redwood Trees - the largest grove of Redwooods in the State. At a leisurely rate the hike should take a few hours.

Take a Trip to Agness: This small community is located about an hours drive from Gold Beach. There is a very windy and scenic drive on your way to Agness. Once there, there are accommodations such as the Lucas Pioneer Ranch and Fishing Lodge, The Singing Springs Resort and the Santa Anita Lodge. The lodges' staff offers help in finding choice salmon or steelhead fishing. Other sites to see are the Illahe Museum and general store.

Take a Hike: There is an extensive list of hiking and mountain biking trails throughout Coos County and can be found on the internet at coostrails.com. The site has information on a variety of trails as well as maps and other details.

Drive to Powers: Vist the Pioneer House Musuem to trace the roots of this historical timber town. The 1872 Wagner family farmhouse is among the earilest "white" settlers at the foot of the Siskiyou mountains. It is currently being restored, but is open Saturday and Sunday from noon to three p.m. with weekday visits available by appointment. More information is available by phone at 439-3331.
