Bastendorff Beach |
I am quite often asked where the campgrounds are located in Coos Bay. One, if not my favorite, is located just south of Charleston and is named Bastendorff Beach County Park. The camp offers both full hookups and tent camping. There are also very small cabins which may be rented. As I've walked through the park many times I can say that animals are "currently" allowed, however please check the number below for the most current information. The campground is especially beautiful because it sits atop the beach which is within very easy access and the jetty is very close too which offers fishing and sometimes wonderful views of ships entering the harbor. I was fortunate enough today to catch a tug pulling in a container ship and there are always fishing boats of different sizes going in and out of the harbor. The sunsets can be beautiful under the right conditions and the weather is always cool and often with a breeze in the air. Bastendorff Beach County Park offers a place to clean your fish, crabs, and clams; it has a horseshoe pit, a playground for the children and a nice place to play basketball. There are regulations to follow, but they all are fair and have your safety and the flora and fauna's well-being in mind. Among the regulations which I noticed you should be aware of are: You may pick wild mushrooms and other edible foods, but you may not bother the flowers, trees, and dig into the ground. You must be at least 18 years old to obtain a campsite or else you will need a parent or a guardian. On the next page about Bastendorff Beach I'll give you the current fees and contact information along with a nice set of photographs which I feel well represent the area. |
