**Elk on the Beach**

Filed under: Uncategorized — CoosBlues @ 4:52 pm

The photo on the index page was taken 2 days ago. The tide was out and the sun had set about 10 mintues earlier. The elk caught me off guard and there was very, very little light left to get a decent picture. I wished I had been looking the other direction at the time but I was capturing on of the nicest sunsets I’ve seen in some time. This is not the first time I’ve seen elk in the bay and hopefully one day I’ll get a “deserving” photo.

**Misleading Information**

It has recently come to my attention that people working at the Davey Jones Locker in Charleston, Oregon are telling people they do NOT need a recreational shellfish license as long as you don’t take more than 12 clams. I have not read anywhere on the internet facts that would verify their claim – please look at THE STATE OF OREGON’S PAGE. The fine for clamming is $75.00 dollars. IS IT WORTH IT.

**The Sky Was Alive**

Last night we had a meteor sail just over the top of the house and it looked to have landed just on the western side of the spit in Coos Bay. It was quite a site as it came hurling from east to west, very low, glowing green with red sparkes. Surely a once in a lifetime experience. Apparently there were a few meteors that were seen in Oregon last night.

**A few Truths about Coos Bay**

Filed under: Uncategorized — CoosBlues @ 11:18 pm

I think I present the positive side of life in Coos Bay and not wanting to hurt the area I don’t mention the negatives, but I’ve decided to list the most apparent. Not even talking about the weather, which can be beautiful in the morning and terrible by afternoon I’d say that on the negative side you’ll find that there is a lack of skilled jobs; there is a problem with meth. in certain areas; quite a few “deadbeats” walking around; food costs are a bit higher; and a lack of affordable housing. I think that’s true with every area so please don’t think all you’ll see is beauty while you are here – we have our share of the downside too but all in all, crime is low, people are nice and the area in general is one which I’d never change for any other part of the world.

**Thanks to the Coast Guard**

We were out overlooking the jetty today, and had the nice surprise to watch a couple of Coast Guard ships out maneuvering among the jetty. They save many lives each year, and it’s only with their daily practice that they are able to make such a difference for everyone that lives along the coast.
