I just mailed May’s newsletter.  As I mentioned before I’m only including a picture now instead of writing text which can easily be found elsewhere.  Should you be subscribed and did not get you email please let me know and I’ll recheck my subscription list.

A Short Break

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 11:37 pm

I’m going to give myself a small vacation this weekend, and I won’t be posting anything new until Monday. I just updated the tide tables for the next few days (I didn’t notice any tides that jumped out at me) so clamming tides are not great low tides, but I would surely take a try at dungeness crabbing should you get the chance. I use to recommend chicken, and it does work very well but the seals seem to have taken a taste for chicken so unless you have a bait box using scrap fish will work just as well and is less costly. I’d still recommend a bait box because those seals will steal your bait and you’ll find yourself fishing with an empty trap literally within minutes. Have a great weekend!

A Good Book for All Men

Filed under: Religion — admin @ 12:51 am

The Minister at my Church gave me a book titled “Wild at Heart” by John Eldredge.  It was surely a page-turner and although rather closely tied to religion I would strongly recommend it for every man no matter what stage of life you are in.  I very seldom sit down and read an entire book at one sitting, but this one was one of those books that sometimes we are fortunate enough to read that seems to have been written just for “me”.  Rather than  describe the book  you can find his website at  www.ransomedheart.com .  All men go through stages in life, and the author describes through events in his own life and the events of others how we progress.

Vandalism at Simpson Reef

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 11:11 pm

This is the second time in the past year that vandals have struck at Simpson Reef.  This time they removed the steel retaining wires which are strung along the fence; not only is this terrible for the Reef, but it also shows the vandals have no regard for the public’s safety.  It’s a good 100′ drop off the cliff, and these retaining wires were very important to stop people from falling over the cliff.  It has been discussed that perhaps a citizen’s patrol could be used, but at this time nothing definite has been concluded.  It’s really a shame that our coastline is being abused by people such as these and I hope that anyone that might have information will report it to the Oregon State Police.

On a side-note, I’ve changed the layout of my homepage .  The large picture will now take you to a story about the photograph.  I’d appreciate any feedback!

Spring is Here

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 7:41 pm

Well, after a rather long winter there’s no doubt in my mind that Spring has arrived along the Oregon coast.  Today’s temperature was a scorching 73 degrees.  Yes, I said scorching.  It may not sound hot to those of you visiting, but for locals like myself we considered it a very hot day.  The sun is great to see again, and spirits are lifted as the long winter days pass behind us for another year.  I’ve noticed quite a number of RV’s going down the road heading toward the beaches.  Have a great time visiting and be safe!
