Crabbing in Coos Bay

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 3:09 pm

As the fall approaches dungeness crabbing in Coos Bay and the State of Oregon should begin to pick up.  I’d say December should be about the year’s peak season for crabbing, but even now you should be able to find lots of crabs.  They have not yet completely filled out and many will have soft shells, but as the winter approaches the crabs will become much fuller and filled with a great deal more meat.  The old adage for crabbing says “months with an R” are good for crabbing, and for the most part that is true – especially month’s that end with an R.  Good crabbing!

Coos Bay Beach Clean-up

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 6:32 pm

This weekend is the annual time when volunteers help to clean up beaches along the Oregon coast.  Sadly, the beaches are very often cluttered with trash and debris which is not only unsightly but can be dangerous.  I urge anyone that has the time to show up Saturday morning at Bastendorff Beach State Park to help with the clean-up.

We have our Beaches Back

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 2:32 pm

Please don’t get me wrong – Oregon loves the tourists that come each summer, but for those of us that live here it sure is nice to have our beaches back.  I’ve mentioned before that most tourists stand out like a sore thumb.  A large number of the tourists have great suntans (that’s one giveaway), and they are bundled up in winter gear as they browse the beaches.  I hope you all had a great visit to the coast – see you next year!

No Cameras Allowed

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 7:17 pm

I went to the Roseburg Veteran’s Administration today for a normal checkup, and with camera in hand I began taking pictures (which I have done for the past 9 years).  I was immediately stopped by a member of the staff and told to put my camera away; after asking a few questions I was informed cameras are not allowed on ANY VA premises.  It appears (sadly) that the VA is listed as a very high security risk due to terrorists.

I mention this because your cameras can be confiscated by VA security.  You can go to Public affairs and ask for a waiver which will normally be granted provided you are enrolled in the VA.  Please contact you local VA for full details.
