It looks as if winter has arrived this year (2006) along the Oregon coast. Winds along the headlands were well over 60M.P.H., and there was a gust along the bridge that measured 106M.P.H. It's not an unusual site for us to see along the coast, but it's always one that amazes and awes me each time I see these crashing ocean waves. As the waves hit the shore some measured well over one hundred feet in height. The jetty had waves well over 10ft. and the ocean swells were even larger. The commercial crabbers just went out 3 days ago as the rains began, but right now no vessels are allowed out to sea. These pictures were taken at the jetty, and south heading down Cape Arago Highway. Oddly, winds on shore when I took these pictures were mild, but the waves are surely an indication of a new storm brewing - this one called the Polar Express because the winds come in from the North from Alaska. Please be careful should you venture out to see the waves. Keep your distance and your eyes on the ocean.
