Discover Ecola, Oregon

Ecola was another of Lewis and Clark's discoveries. While heading west towards the Pacific Ocean in 1806 they spotted a beached whale. The Corps of Discovery sent along 12 men with Captain Clark often climbing over very rocky headlands and fighting their way through thick shrubs and thorny berry bushes to reach the whale. This began trade in oil and blubber between Captain Clark and the Native American Indians.

Today it is an Oregon State Park which offers year round recreation for all types of explorers. Near Indian Beach you can follow in the footsteps of the famous explorers while following the Clatsop Loop Trail. Surfers love the area and it is also a great place to go whale watching.
