My apologies for the long delay between newsletters. I don't know how many of you read my blog or the "my thoughts page", but that is where when I have the least amount of time I'll post a few quick comments. I'd surely check there first for any news about the site, and any recent changes which have been made. I don't post all the changes there because I hope you'll exlore the site and find some of the new changes out of curiousity. One other thing I don't do, which is going to change, is to tell you more about myself, my life and what life is really like is Coos Bay. You can get the statistics and detailed information at www.theworlink.com - or local online newpaper.
On the very positive note: I finally delved into the world of Digital SLR cameras and found a very nice Nikon (which I'm still learning to use), and I've found the photos to be much better than my older camera. To those of you that may not be familiar with cameras a (S)ingle (L)ens (R)eflex camera has interchangeable lens' while most Digital cameras do not have the ability to change the lens. This one ability has opened a new world of photography as I see the world through the camera and as the months go by I'm going to phase out all the older photos with ones from the new camera. I'm able to get closer, crisper shots with one lens and great distant landscape shots which another. I honestly haven't opened the book on the camera yet, I'm one that tends not to read instructions unless all else fails.
The site itself is doing well in the search engines, and I have no plans of shutting the site down or selling it. It still is a labor of love, sometimes more labor than love, so that's when I just turn off the computer and pull out my guitar or grab the camera and head for hopefully that one in a million pictures I'm sure each photographer aims for while looking through the camera's eyes.
I've been hesitant to tell you much about myself, not for fear of anything but because so very many, if not most, websites are so very impersonal. Believe me, each and every word, photograph and idea for the site was written by me except for the fishing section (thanks again Don). I don't have a "corporate" look to my site, and that's purely intentional. I'm a self-taught photogapher and web designer. I actually started with a 1 megapixel Fuji camera and a copy of HTML for Dummies (which I still at times my refer too). I could serve you pop up ads, annoying banners and such, but I've decided to stick with what Google calls Adsense. I hope the ads are not too obtrusive.
The greatest thing in my life is that I am now a Christian. I just celebrated my first Easter as a Christian and life is now bright and full of joy. I will not be one of those "Bible thumpers", but there may be an occasion I will make a reference to things we cannot see. It's impssible to live in this beauty and not belive it was created. I want you to know I respect all religions and if you are agnostic or an aethist you will not find me kocking on your door. Only One can knock: "Revelations" 3:20
The main reason I haven't been updating the site with new photos and content the past few months has been due to a health issue, which I can now gladly say is resolved. I had Cervical Neck surgery about 2 weeks ago to repair a couple of damaged disks. The surgey was a great success, my pain is gone and yes, I can type again. I went out today for the first time in over a month for new pictures, and the one which I am sending you this month was taken today.
I got up rather early and headed towards Charleston, and I took a few side roads looking for different perspectives, but when the roads required me to go into 4 Wheel I had to stop and turn around. I won't be getting the truck into 4 Wheel mode until the neck is completely healed. Alas, I stray. I then stopped for gas and headed south on my famous Cape Arago loop. My first stop was at the Marina in Charleston where I took about 30 pictures then I headed up to the Coast Guard Station overlooking the jetty. I left there, drove down to Bastendorff Beach and then off to Lighthouse Beach. I then went to Shore Acres to see what flowers were in bloom and my final stop was at the end of Cape Arago Hwy. It looks as if we'll have a late spring this year looking at the flowers, and the temperature remains a bit cooler than normal. The tide was rather high while I was out so I didn't see many seals where I often find them, but all in all I did capture some great memories of the day.
This is where I place the link to my newsletter subscribers for their monthly picture. All you need to do is visit this page to get your subsrciption.
Again, I suggest the local paper for daily news and questions about crime, property, etc. I sadly can't recommend the Chamber of Commerce other than to say it's a good place to stop if you are IN town looking for brochures.
God Bless,
Scott
