The Oregon Woodlands

I don't get out of the city very often - largely because I enjoy it here far too much to leave, but there are times when I like to enjoy other parts of the State. The picture below was taken in the Northern part of the State, and it is a great example of the beauty of the Oregon Woodlands. This picture doesn't show any clear-cutting (which is a nice change).

The State picks areas to harvest the trees, and when they are done the area has been cut in large patches so that no trees remain. The State is good about re-planting, but it will take the new trees a lifetime or more to reach the beauty that you see in this picture. As an Oregonian I realize the cutting is necessary, but it still saddens me to see areas ravaged by the clear-cutting that takes place far too often. Enjoy your homes and most things made of wood. There's a good chance the wood came from Oregon.
