I took this picture about 8a.m. over a very, very calm bay in the harbor. The fog bank must have held enough water to allow the rising sun to create a very light but beautiful rainbow. I just have a passion for rainbows. As a Christian each time I see a rainbow it's like God is smiling down upon me. In Genesis He promised that He would never flood the Earth again, and as a sign He set the rainbow in the sky of His everlasting promise and a new covenant. See "Genesis" 9:12.
The bay was calmer than I have seen it in months and those of you that know my photography know that I always look for reflections, so this picture was surely a special gift. Once again, I was using my Nikon SLR and had it set in landscape mode. I knew the rainbow wouldn't last long, and without a tripod I was unable to go to a full manual mode. I'd recommend that all serious photographers buy a good tripod. Just a touch of camera shake can ruin a picture, but with a tripod that problem is easily cured. I'd recommend a tripod that has a level bubble on it which allows you to see how to adjust the legs to make sure you have the horizon level.
