Pictures of Sea Lions

Sea lions just love the Oregon coast, and they are very plentiful in the local harbors of Coos Bay and all along the Oregon Coast. The pictures of the sea lions below were taken as they were resting on a dock in the harbor. They are a joy to watch, and when they bark you can literally hear them from a mile away because the sound is so very loud. I was very fortunate to get these pictures, but at the same time I was very careful not to come too close. They are very protective of one another and are not animals that one would want to tangle with due to their large size and their bear-like teeth. The majority of the sea lions pictured here were males and they are quite easy to distinguish from the females by their large size and the sounds they make as they talk to each other, and they also use their bark as a form of protection. I've been around seals and sea lions quite often, but again I ask that you approach them very slowly; do not be tempted to touch them, and never, ever touch a new-born pup because the mother will reject the baby once human hands have come in contact. They eat just about anything, and have a special taste for salmon and most types of fish. They are also quite smart and are notorious for taking a crab fishermen's bait. I hope you enjoy these pictures just as much as I do, and I had a great day as they posed for me.
