How Many Mammals Can You SeeThis area is the home of many types of seals. There are thousands of California sea lions, harbor seals, and northern elephant seals. At times, you might see gray whales and orcas. Simpson Reef and the Shell Islands are one of the few places along the Oregon Coast where you can watch the seals come out of the water, walk along the beaches and adjacent rocks.Simpson Overlook provides a great place to take photographs, and has many informational posters to inform you more about the area. Another great source of information is www.sea-edu.org. The the SEA is a group that stations Docents at the overlook Saturday, Sunday and Monday during the summer holidays from Memorial Day til Labor Day 10 am til 4 pm. The area will be different during different tides of the day - both offer a different and interesting view. Try returning to the area during the different seasons to see the changes which take place in this beautiful nature environment. Please help preserve this pristine area by not disturbing the natural wildlife. "Leave No Tracks Behind You" is a great motto to follow while visiting the Oregon coast.
