This is a picture of the old Sitka Smokestack before it was demolished in February 2007. The smokestack and everything around it is being replaced by a new development, but not after considerable debate with environmentalists. The Oregon National Guard imploded the stack during part of a training exercise. The road was backed up for hours while the old landmark was being removed and a touch of Oregon rain seemed touching for the occasion; as I side with the Environmental Groups.
