The most powerful storm of the last few years hit the
Oregon coast on December 3, 2008. The winds hit hurricane force
and exceeded 100 miles per hour. The seas were rough and the
waves were between 30 and 40 feet. I took this picture as the
waves hit the cliffs. My son is sitting down to give you an idea
of how huge these waves are, and the power the create when they
make it to the shoreline.
I'd estimate some of them crested over the cliff's at
well over 60 feet. I want to caution you all to be very careful
when a storm like this is in the area. It's not a place to
play, so never, ever turn your back on the ocean. We had quite a
number of power outages, and trees were blown down throughout the
state . I always cover my camera in a protective bag when I go
out in such weather, and I'd recommend you do the same to
protect your valuable camera gear. The waves are an awesome
sight, but can be deadly too.
