Winter has once again arrived in Oregon and we had our first really good storm just a couple of days ago. The winds were gusting to about 70 mph and the rain was almost non-stop for more hours than I care to count. It seems that the brunt of the Pacific storms hit Oregon late in the evening and last throughout the night. The ocean gets so loud that if you turn everything off that makes sound all you will hear is the rumblings of the ocean and the howls of wind coming from sometimes all directions at once. I'd love to get out with the camera at night and take some pictures of the nighttime storms but that is impossible and also very dangerous. I took these photos the day after our last big storm (9 Dec 04). It was still raining, so for the most part to protect my camera I took these photos while I was sitting in the truck. The pictures were taken all along Cape Arago Highway. I know it looks in some of the photos like there is no color to the photo, but on a very wintery day like today their literally is no color. I do however have a couple of black and white photographs mixed in this batch so that won't make it any easier for you. I like shooting in black and white during light periods as they were today. Since there are really nothing but shades of grey and white to work with a black and white photograph is sometimes the perfect way to go.
