I took this picture using a Nikon D50 Digital camera. My exposure settings were set on auto because I often find that when taking pictures of moving objects I just don't have time to set the camera manually. Pictures taken which are "still shots" are often used with manual settings and exposure times so I can get the desired effect, but it does take some time to adjust all of the camera settings.
This picture of a rather young sea lion was taken one very unusually sunny winter day here in Coos Bay, Oregon. I know many people complain about the seals, but man infringed upon their territory and they have the right to live where they can find the food they need in order to thrive. This seal was in the local harbor, and I will admit that when I am out dungeness crabbing I have to protect my bait from being stolen by using a bait trap. They are beautiful animals to watch, and at times are very playful. The State of Oregon protects the seals from anyone wishing to do them harm, and their are many places which rescue seal pups until they can be returned to the wild. These seal pups are tagged or sometimes branded so that the Department of Fish and Game can monitor their progress. Please be kind!
