Tug boats play an integral role throughout the world, and Coos Bay, Oregon is no exception. There are two tug boat companies in the area and they are named Knutson Towboat and the Sause Brothers. The jetty and the channel which encompass Coos Bay, Empire, and Charleston is narrow and relatively shallow which makes it very hard if not impossible for larger vessels to navigate without tug boat assistance. The sheer power of these tug boats is very impressive and watching them navigate the channel is quite an experience. The Knutson Towboat Company's Website provides a great deal of information including the history of the company and much more. The Sause Brother's website is complete with the company's history and some nice pictures. The tug boats are always fascinating to watch as they work their way through the channel and I truly enjoy taking pictures of the boats. Tug boats are also made in Coos Bay and are often upgraded to keep up with ever growing demands. These tug boats pull and push cargo ships around the world often stopping in Hawaii before leaving for their final destination.
