I truly enjoy getting out and taking photographs of the waves - especially waves crashing into the rocks and shoreline. The Oregon coast surely offers many great places to watch waves breaking. I'd suggest going out after a storm, or even during a storm if you don't mind getting wet. Some of the waves you'll see are crashing at heights well over 100ft. as they hit the cliffs, rocks, or shore. Just remember to keep your distance from the waves and always respect their power. The waves don't break on a regular schedule so don't assume on won't catch you not looking - often called "sneaker waves". I generally use a high powered camera lens when taking wave pictures. The zoom of the camera allows me to get the photos I want and still affords me the safety one needs while viewing the crashing waves.
