The Grey Whale

I went out this last day of August 2007 hoping to see the whales as they were migrating to the south for the summer. The coast is a perfect spot to watch whales and once you know what to look for; they send up a ploom of water that looks a lot like smoke and can be seen quite far from the shoreline. The grey whales are heading south to the warm waters of Mexico where they will have their calves, and then they will return sometime in March as they head north. The varying temperature of the Pacific waters are their reason for migration along with a need to find plenty of food as they nurse the baby whales. The whales are such an awesome sight to watch.
