The pictures below are of Chainsaw Wood Carvings. These carvings start with varying sizes of trees, and through the craftsmanship of these chainsaw artists almost any type of wood carving can be made. You will see beautiful wooden objects; most likely carvings of animals. There are birds, bears and even a carving of the Abominable Snowman. The wood carvings are normally made within one or two days. They are then judged and a winner is chosen. The winning artist's are given money, chainsaws, and other woodworking equipment. The wood carvings are then either auctioned or sold. You may also commission the artists to make you most anything you desire such as mailboxes, name placards and specific animals. The wood carvings are done throughout the west coast of Oregon, and they are very often accompanied by lumberjack competitions. It is a great way to spend the day, and I do recommend some sort of ear protection.
